Change how an IBAN is displayed

IBAN Formatter

Convert an IBAN between grouped print format and continuous electronic format without changing its letters or digits.

Format IBAN

Enter 1–34 letters or digits. Spaces and presentation hyphens are allowed.

Formatting happens only in your browser.

How IBAN formatting works

  1. Letters are changed to uppercase, while spaces and hyphens used for display are removed.
  2. Unsupported punctuation and lookalike letters from other scripts remain errors.
  3. Electronic format contains the same letters and digits with no separators.
  4. Print format groups the same value from the left in blocks of four characters.

IBAN print format vs electronic format

Electronic format
Electronic format is one continuous sequence used in data entry and machine processing.
Print format
Print format inserts a space after every four characters to improve visual reading. The final group may be shorter.

Frequently asked questions

Does formatting change an IBAN?

No account letters or digits are added, removed, reordered, or repaired. Only case and presentation separators are normalized.

Can an invalid IBAN still be formatted?

This tool does not assess validity. It formats permitted letters and digits into both representations without repairing or verifying them.

Is my IBAN sent to a server?

No. Formatting runs locally in your browser. Complete IBANs are excluded from URLs and analytics.
